Year 1/2

Welcome to Year 1/2

Welcome to Year 1-2 at Hazel Grove Primary School!

In this class, pupils benefit from being taught in mixed age groups – where children from different years learn together in the same classroom. This approach offers a range of advantages that support both academic progress and personal development:

  • Enhanced social skills: A mixed-age class encourages cooperation and broader friendships across age groups. Younger pupils gain confidence by learning alongside older peers, while older pupils develop mentoring skills and responsibility – which fosters a strong sense of community.
  • More flexible learning: Teachers of a mixed-age class can be more responsive to the support that pupils may need, irrespective of their age. This allows pupils to progress at their own pace and be challenged appropriately.
